Kirsten Ortwed
 
Kirsten Ortwed was born in 1948 in Copenhagen and has since 1982 lived and worked in Cologne, Germany and Pietrasanta, Italy. She studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (1972-1975). Solo exhibitions include Statens Museum for Kunst, Denmark (2008), Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum, Aalborg (2002), Horsens Kunstmuseum (2000), Malmö Kunsthal (with Lawrence Weiner and Barry Le Va) (1999), Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nantes (1994), Städtische Museen Heilbronn (1993) and The Living Art Museum, Reykjavik (1992). She represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale (1997). She has received the Medal of Eckersberg (1995), Carl Nielsens and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsens Grant (1998) and the Medal of Thorvaldsen (2002).
